Mount Burr Swamp – Let’s Bring It Back!

Reaching for the target…

$113,488.00 / $110,000.00

MOUNT BURR SWAMP HAS BEEN CLEARED, DRAINED AND FARMED FOR OVER 50 YEARS.

THE PROPERTY LIES IN A CRITICAL LOCATION IN THE SOUTH EASTERN AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPE, ADJOINING THE NATIONALLY SIGNIFICANT MARSHES WETLAND COMPLEX – HOME TO BIRDLIFE, BANDICOOTS, BUSHLAND AND WETLANDS.

LET’S BRING IT BACK.

On the 30th of September 2016, Nature Glenelg Trust (NGT) settled the purchase of Mt Burr Swamp, in partnership with the Native Vegetation Council, OneFortyOne Plantations and the wider community.

Outcomes

Mt Burr Swamp will provide a rare demonstration of what sustainable water management, threatened species recovery and large-scale native revegetation actually look like on the ground, while providing an opportunity for the community to actively participate in the exciting journey that lies ahead.

The site provides the opportunity to restore habitat for six nationally threatened species: Little (formerly Dwarf) Galaxias (fish), Growling Grass Frog, Australasian Bittern, Southern Brown Bandicoot, Red-tailed Black Cockatoo and Southern Bent-wing Bat, as well as a range of other important or iconic species, such as the Brolga.

The facts

The property is 300 hectares (750 acres) in size, and is situated adjacent to an existing 600 hectare wetland reserve.

NGT now has a small loan which was required to settle the purchase the property, with the final funding gap in the community fundraising campaign shown on this page.

So although we are no longer actively campaigning, we’d really appreciate your support to reach the target, because the sooner the remaining debt is paid, the faster restoration works can begin…

Get on board

Once the target is reached, all project supporters (large and small) will be recognised on permanent signage to be installed on site. Over the years ahead there will be many opportunities to visit the site and see for yourself what we have achieved together, plus you will be kept updated on the progress of the restoration story through our newsletter and the NGT website.

You have our commitment and guarantee that 100% of your donated money will go towards helping us cover the purchase and restoration costs for the site.

All donations over $2 are tax-deductible.
