Port Fairy school’s new outdoor classroom

NGT nursery staff recently headed over to Port Fairy Consolidated School to plant out our final native plant display garden with the school’s environmental science students.

Different groups of students worked diligently throughout the day on planting and watering duties, and some had such a good time that they came back in their lunchbreak and brought recruits!

The garden will be an outdoor classroom for the students as they learn about the plants and their importance, including traditional uses with local Indigenous leaders in the near future. The environmental science students will be caretakers of the garden, with watering necessary while the plants become established.

It was really inspiring to work with such an enthusiastic group of people – one student was even heard remarking that it was the “best science lesson ever!”
