A great day out at the South West TAFE Warrnambool Expo

A few weeks ago, Lachie and I attended the South West TAFE Volunteer expo held in Warrnambool. The expo allowed people to become more involved in the community, by chatting with a range of organisations and hearing what volunteer opportunities were on offer. The event was well attended, attracting TAFE and university students, teachers, community group leaders, retirees and other general members of the public.

The Nature Glenelg Trust stall was positioned with other local environmental organisations; Fishcare Victoria, Conservation Volunteers, Warrnambool Clean Oceans Collective and Boomerang Bags Warrnambool. The event was a great opportunity to share the good news about NGT’s most recent habitat restoration reserve – Walker Swamp. We spoke to several potential community volunteers that were excited about the prospect of visiting the property in the future and helping with some on-ground works.  Other community members were interested to hear about our two Mulloway citizen science research projects.

Warrnambool Clean Oceans Collective is a great initiative driven by mainly community volunteers, that is helping to minimize local marine debris.

Thanks to Warrnambool City Council Volunteer Connect Coordinator, Bernadette Northeast for organising the event.
