Olive Perchlet thrive in new luxury home in Adelaide
Olive Perchlet have been regionally extinct in South Australia for over 40 years. However, with a little help, they are now thriving in their new surrogate wetland home at the Glenelg Golf Course in Adelaide. After establishing lovely habitat in the wetland, including planting submerged aquatic vegetation, Olive Perchlet from interstate were released into the wetland late last year. In excellent news, recent fish surveys found over 750 individuals in one of the wetlands, with all size classes recorded. This shows that the fish are not only surviving but also breeding in the wetland, which offers a safe and controlled environment.
To boost genetics and population numbers, a further 3000 Olive Perchlet were recently released into new wetlands at Glenelg Golf Course from interstate. These fish will be used to start up new populations in more surrogate sites in SA. Monitoring will be ongoing to keep an eye on these cuties and make sure they are thriving.
