Aquatic plants to boost habitat in SA

Submerged aquatic plants play a vital role in wetlands, streams and rivers. They help purify the water and increase water quality, provide habitat and food to a wide variety of aquatic organisms and provide critical spawning habitat for native fish species to lay their eggs. Unfortunately many waterways are void of submerged aquatic vegetation. NGT is currently growing aquatic vegetation to plant into wetlands and rivers in South Australia. This project, funded by Green Adelaide and the Department for Environment and Water is a fabulous step towards increasing the health of our waterways and the conservation of aquatic animals.
