Cross-border Community Nursery News – January 2014
There’s been a lot happening in the Nursery lately, with much seed collecting and propagating going on and the production of the first edition of our nursery newsletter.
One of the reasons we have managed to get 2014 off to such a flying start is due to our energetic and skilled Internee, Yvonne Riley.
Yvonne is only 3 weeks into a 6 week internee ship but has already made an amazing contribution to our Nursery, helping with collecting, cleaning and propagating seeds and cuttings and generally doing a great job in helping to keep the Nursery in top shape.
This week we also welcomed a new volunteer, Ryan Little to the nursery. Ryan will help out one day a week with propagation, nursery maintenance and seed collection. Ryan has recently completed a Certificate 2 in Horticulture at Mount Gambier TAFE and has previously worked in nurseries and on seed collecting projects throughout Australia, so will be a real asset to the Nursery.
Newsletter Debut
The Nursery now has its very own Newsletter which will be produced every couple of months.
The purpose of the Newsletter is to keep growers, seed collectors, revegetators and interested community members up to date with activities and events being run either by the Nursery or in partnership with other organisations. It will also provide current and relevant information about the germination and propagation of native plants discovered by plant scientist and professional and amateur plant growers in our region.
Relevant contributions of articles for this Newsletter would be very welcome, especially if they come with a photo or illustrations and are no more than 350 words.
You can read the first edition of the Plant Press newsletter here: Plant Press – Jan-Feb 2014.
