High school students get hands-on experience at the NGT Community Nursery

The Mt Gambier Community Nursery has recently had three visits from Tenison Woods College Year 11 Outdoor Education students. The students have been studying ‘Water in our landscape’ through their investigation called ‘The Kakadu of The South’. Within this, they have been learning about revegetation and native plant species, which fits into their care for and connection to Country priorities within the subject, the college, and the wider community.

As you can see in the photos below, the students got some hands-on experience with native seedlings in the nursery. They got to work pricking out tiny Melaleuca squamea seedlings – one of the rarer ‘edge of swamp’ species that will be planted at Mt Burr Swamp later this year. Their visits were educational and contributed to real life revegetation projects! Great work students.
