Investigator College Year 5’s Become Fish Ecologists
The weather was perfect and the year 5’s at Investigator College were excited to be fish ecologists at Currency Creek for the day. Students had the opportunity to undertake fish and turtle surveys using fyke nets and water quality monitoring with Sylvia from Aquasave-NGT.
A great day was had with students learning about the biology and ecology of these species and how to identify different species, measure and record them. Six eastern long-neck turtles were sampled, as well as seven species of native fish.
Students were also treated to a snake education session by Cory from Aquasave-NGT. and seeing two pythons. John Freebairn, science teacher at Investigator College, is passionate about the environment and has included these sessions as part of the regular program for students at the school.
