This Spring, the popular Limestone Coast Bird ID Course is back in Mt Gambier and Naracoorte.

Nature Glenelg Trust is again teaming up with the Limestone Coast Landscape Board to run a comprehensive 10-session bird identification course, led by Dr Greg Kerr, who has delivered many similar courses in South Australia and western Victoria. Again, the course is free to the public and is a must for anyone starting out in bird watching or ornithology. The course is designed to build the skills and confidence of novice twitchers, but may also be of interest to more experienced bird watchers who want to extend their knowledge and skills. If you were sitting on the fence about attending last year’s course, now is your chance, with only 20 places available at each location.

Each 4-hour session will combine a field component and an indoor workshop session. You will get first-hand field experience in bird identification in a variety of habitat types, and learn to identify around 300 bird species by sight, calls, behaviour and habitat use. The course also covers avian classification, anatomy, ecology, and behaviour. By the end of the ten-week course, you will be able to confidently conduct two-hectare/20-minute surveys and submit your results through a phone app. called Birdata. If this is of interest to you, we urge you to book now as only 20 places are available for each course. You must be able to commit to attending all ten sessions.

Dates and venues are close to being finalised and will run sometime between 25th August and 20th November.
