Mosaic art for threatened birds — Jess gets a surprise gift

At the beginning of May, NGT’s Orange-bellied Parrot project coordinator Jess was surprised by a visit from Jacqui of Mosaics on the Move. Jacqui is from Tasmania and currently travelling Australia learning about, and making mosaics of, vulnerable bird species as she goes.

Jacqui makes mosaics of vulnerable bird species in public spaces. As she creates the artworks from pieces of old crockery, members of the public always gather around to watch. Jacqui takes this opportunity to educate those watching about the species she’s working on. The works are then donated to those who work on conserving the species, or left in areas where the species can be found.

I was lucky enough to be gifted an Orange-bellied Parrot from Jacqui, and I think you’ll agree, it’s stunning!
