Marking four years of Murray Crayfish releases – returning an iconic species to the lower Murray in SA
On a glorious sunny July day, NGT, together with the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board and River Murray and Mallee Aboriginal Corporation had the pleasure of undertaking the fourth year of Murray Crayfish releases into the SA reintroduction reach of the River Murray.
Two hundred adults and juveniles were released into a beautiful river stretch with fast flowing water and good habitat. The aim of these annual releases is to rebuild self-sustaining populations of Murray Crayfish back in SA, where they had been extinct for over 40 years.
