Our community nursery is at capacity — Luckily, OneFortyOne’s Glencoe nursery has come to the rescue!

At NGT’s Mt Gambier Community Nursery, our volunteers have been busy pricking out and potting up a lot of seedlings for some of our Restoration Reserves.

For the damp fringe of Mt Burr Swamp they have been potting up Melaleuca and Leptospermum species, and for for Mount Vandyke some grassland species including Carex iynx. Growing seedlings is essential for these revegetation projects, which underpin our NGT properties’ long-term ecological recovery. NGT is aiming to establish another 6,000 seedlings this winter and spring at Mt Burr Swamp and 1,000 at Mt Vandyke.

With all these seedlings on the way, our small community nursery in the centre of Mt Gambier is almost at capacity again this year! Thankfully one of our long-term partners in the region, OneFortyOne (OFO) and their Glencoe Nursery, have come to the rescue and kindly offered us some extra space.

Below are some photos of the seedlings in their temporary new home at OFO Glencoe Nursery, with NGT nursery coordinator Ange, OFO nursery staff member Craig and some of our wonderful NGT Nursery volunteers.
