Preparations for phase 3 of the Long Swamp restoration trial are underway!

Earlier in the week, a small but very energetic NGT crew (plus volunteers Callum, Liam and Travis, and our work experience student Coen – thanks guys!) helped us get the site ready for the community sandbagging events that will get underway after Easter (kicking off on Thursday the 9th of April – see here for more details).

We managed to achieve a lot in a couple of days, getting the base lined with geofabric and the footing trench sandbags in place, ready for the sandbagging proper to begin with the help of the local community next week.

If you are keen to know what to expect next week, here are some images that tell the story of how the site looks so far…

A clean slate – ready to begin…

Getting started with the digging… a big job by hand!

Making good progress with the trenches…

More progress…

Moving on the the bank…

Lining the base and footing trenches with geofabric…

The base fully lined and footing trenches sandbagged… now for the rest of the sandbags – a job for after Easter!
