South Australian Government grant helps purchase firefighting unit for NGT

The Regional Capability Community Fund (RCCF) was reinstated by the South Australian Government to improve resilience and capability in regional, remote and rural communities. The RCCF has been established to improve community safety and capability to respond to fire emergencies by offering up to $3,000 to farmers and farming businesses to purchase equipment to support the safe use of Farm Fire Units (FFU).

NGT is very grateful for the funding provided through this program, and we have twice been successful in obtaining funding. The first grant assisted us to purchase fire gear for a number of our staff to have them suitably equipped to fight a fire if one was to eventuate. This second grant has allowed us to purchase a 400L fire unit (Polymaster) with a 30m hose, and its fits neatly on the back of Betty, our trusty ute (see picture below). A Farm Fire Unit such as this gives us the capacity to fight any fires on our properties especially those in fire-prone areas like Eaglehawk Waterhole in South Australia.

A big thanks to NGT staff Carmen and Toni for sourcing this unit, organising the registration of the Farm Fire Unit and finalising the paperwork.

We look forward to using this fire unit on our properties to continue our small burning programs to help restore vegetation communities and control weeds on our properties. Pictured below is a small grass burn. We have undertaken these at Hutt Bay, Mt Burr Swamp and Eaglehawk Waterhole over the last few years with help from OFO and Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation.
