Turtle-themed events for both kids and adults herald turtle nesting season this spring
It’s that time of year where the Eastern Long-necked Turtle is starting to find the right water body to find a mate and nest, with a couple of sightings recently.
If you’ve seen a turtle or turtle nest of any species, no matter where you are in Australia, add it to TurtleSAT to help us gain a better understanding of where they are and what they’re up to. You can also download the TurtleSAT app through your app store. And if you see a turtle on the road, if it’s safe to do so, pick it up and move it in the direction its going. Don’t forget to use an old towel as they will leave a stinky smell on you to say thank you.
Jess will be hosting a couple of turtle events in the lead-up to turtle nesting season. First up is Crafty Turtles at the Rendelsham Hall, in the south east of SA. Bring the kids and join us for some turtle-themed crafts while we chat about the local Eastern Long-necked Turtles. Registrations can be made here.
And in November, come along to the Turtle Talk in Robe. Find out all about local turtles and how to help them, share stories and have a great evening of turtle talk! The talk will be held on November 11th from 5:30 pm- 7 pm at Robe Golf Club – book here.
This project is supported by the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board with funding from the South Australian Government’s Landscape Priorities Fund and landscape levies.
