Urban wetlands in Green Adelaide get a boost
Aquatic plants are important for wetlands and play a key role in contributing to a healthy wetland ecosystem. Aquatic plants provide critical habitat for many aquatic organisms, oxygenate the water, stabilise sediment, filter excess nutrients from the water, and help regulate water temperature. Unfortunately, submerged aquatic plants are missing from a large number of wetlands in South Australia. In partnership with Green Adelaide, and with the support of the City of Adelaide, SA Water, and the City of West Torrens, we have been planting aquatic vegetation including Vallisneria and Ottelia at specially selected wetlands and river sites in the Green Adelaide region.
