Recognising ‘World Frog Day’ at Wirey Swamp and beyond: Shining a light on NGT’s work to recover the Growling Grass Frog
The 20th of March each year is World Frog Day, and to mark the occasion, we’re sharing a couple of media items that help explain some of NGT’s work to recover the species at the new Wirey Swamp Restoration Reserve and beyond.
Firstly, here is a nice little conversation about the Growling Grass Frog (aka Southern Bell Frog) that I had with the ABC’s Narelle Graham on the SA Regional Drive Program. As well as listening to the species’ distinctive call, we chatted about their conservation, what will be involved in restoring their habitat at Wirey Swamp and how we are trying to “crack the code” for supporting these magnificent frogs to breed in captivity:
Additionally, NGT’s work to create and expand the Wirey Swamp Restoration Reserve was also recently featured by Bank Australia in their blog and associated social media accounts for World Frog Day. You can read the story here, or by clicking on the image below:
Full details about the expansion of the Wirey Swamp Restoration Reserve are outlined in this separate update, which also includes this fantastic video created by one of NGT’s very own ecologists, Lauren Creasey.
There will also be future opportunities for community involvement in the restoration, monitoring and management of the site, as well as educational activities. If you wish to register your interest, please email Lisa at:
Finally, we’re still seeking community support towards the cost of the Stage Two expansion of the Wirey Swamp Restoration Reserve, so if you are in a position to help out please click this link or the button below. All donations over $2 are fully tax-deductible.
